My Mask Experiment

After I did the research on African mask on the Internet,  I decided to further my research by looking at African masks through books from the library.

After my research on African masks, and taken images of modern dancers, I decided to choose one of my mask which I drew in details in close up and on the dancer's face. I decided that It could be best to draw down the colours which I am thinking about for the African mask.

For this  I was given a polystyrene head which I vassline twice. Then using latex which were cut in strips and soaked in warm water, I started to apply the latex over the face. This was repeated twice.

When the face mask was dried, using a clay knife I carefully peel it off.

This is the mask coloured with acrylic looking like a Chinese mask. However the material felt light but it looks quite dangerous because when someone wear this, the dust could get into the person eyes.
Made the mask out of paper mache. Material light. This was done with the same process for the latex however I used wallpaper glue to held the newspapers together on the doll face.
